Underwater Treadmill

Your dog would certainly enjoy going for a warm-water swim in the winter months to soothe those aching joints.  Of course, a cool dip in the summer heat could be just what your pet needs to burn off some extra energy.  Hydrotherapy can help with all of that.

We offer Underwater Treadmill Hydrotherapy (UTH) treatments for dogs with a variety of needs.  The buoyancy of the water allows them to burn more calories (thus increasing their metabolism) without adding stress to sensitive joints and muscles.  Dogs who are recovering from orthopedic surgeries benefit from hydrotherapy because they are able to maintain and even gain muscle tone while avoiding the stress gravity can place on sensitive recovering joints.  The warm water offers resistance without the pain of impact on the floor surface.  Senior dogs who are experiencing loss of movement due to arthritic changes in joints find that the warm water treadmill soothes their joints, helps to control inflammation and increases their range of motion. Obese animals will benefit from hydrotherapy because their extra weight can place dangerous stress on their joints and circulatory system, which causes pain and stress. One more group of dogs that benefit from UTH is the happy, overly-energetic young group.  Frequently owners are looking for a fun, healthy way to burn off excess energy; hydrotherapy offers time for organized play, exercise and joint conditioning without causing undue stress to growing limbs.

UTH can be used just for fun, or for it’s healing benefits.  Whether you need one session, or multiple sessions,  you and the Doctor can decide which is best for your pet!
